Head Coach – Jimmy Tyers

Jimmy Tyers brings a wealth of experience to Billingham Boxing Academy, built on an extensive amateur career of over 50 bouts before transitioning into coaching.

He began his coaching journey at Newbiggin Boxing Club, where he played a key role in developing young talent, including guiding his son, Jimmy Tyers Jnr, to Schoolboy honours. His reputation continued to grow during his time at Darlington ABC, where he helped coach multiple national champions. His sons Jimmy, Joe, and William have all represented their country, with Joe continuing to compete at Great Britain level.

Since joining Billingham Boxing Academy in 2020, Jimmy has become an integral part of the coaching team. As Head Coach, he oversees the development of senior, youth, and junior squads, creating a structured pathway for boxers at every stage of their journey.

Beyond competition success, Jimmy is deeply committed to using boxing as a tool for positive change. His work supports the academy’s wider mission as a charity—helping individuals build confidence, discipline, and resilience, while contributing to programmes that address issues such as mental health and youth violence.

His dedication to the sport is second to none, and his knowledge and experience continue to inspire the next generation—guiding them not only towards national honours, but towards brighter futures beyond the ring.
